June 9th was the closing date for Þnal submissions to the Secretary of State for Transport in the current challenge
to Gatwick’s unsustainable expansion plans.
GACC, working with their expert team and legal advisors, has submitted a robust statement in response to
Gatwick’s latest proposals as published in April. Details of the
GACC submission (some 30 pages) are given here https://www.gacc.org.uk/resources/GACC%20Final%20submitted.pdf
In other news there is a change of leader at Gatwick. Stewart Wingate who has been CEO for the past 15 years is
moving on to become the Managing Director of a new VINCI/GIP group company – Airports UK. Meanwhile PierreHugues Schmit, currently Chief Commercial and Operational OfÞcer at VINCI Airports and a non-executive director
on the London Gatwick Board, will succeed Stewart as Chief Executive of London Gatwick.
There has been some interesting chatter on social media locally recently about the noticeable increase in noise
disturbance. Basically, although aircraft are getting quieter (nowadays marginally), the huge increases in the
number of ßights (well over 900 per day in peak summer months) is causing more and more noise disturbance
and counteracting any value of quieter design.
For those interested in where their property falls in the noise contours around Gatwick the latest Þgures for 2024
are available here and show that basically daytime noise levels have gone up! Figures are here https://www.gatwickairport.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-Gatwick-Library/default/dw03fe5b8c/images/Corporate-PDFs/Noise-Reports/LGW_2024_summer_contours_report_FINAL.pdf
Whilst things quieten down a little in our back ofÞce we’re still actively preparing for challenges to adverse
decisions from the Secretary of State on Gatwick’s expansion plans. So, volunteers and funds are always welcome!
Please support GACC by becoming a member. Send us a subscription or a one-off donation - we would welcome
your help. As a member you will be able to attend our AGM and vote for who should serve on our committee or
even become a committee member. More information on joining is here: https://www.gacc.org.uk/join-us.php
Fundraiser for Legal Challenges
To meet the legal challenges GACC has launched a Crowd Justice fundraising
campaign to support these legal challenges.
The link to the campaign is here: https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/gacc/
Alternatively, donations can be made directly to our bank at:
Gatwick Area Conservation Campaign
Nat West Bank plc
Sort Code 60 – 11 – 41
A/c number 52474119
Please donate to the campaign to help us continue to challenge the expansion of Gatwick Airport and the
disastrous consequences that expansion would have on local people as well as globally. With your support we
can ensure that issues like night ßights, noise, air quality, and climate change do not go unnoticed. Commitments
and promises dropped will not go unchallenged and we will keep on working to stop Gatwick’s unsustainable
expansion from becoming a terrible reality.
