Parish Pump - July 2025
Dear Friends,
July has to be the best month to live and visit Charlwood! I hope that you would agree as this month
we look forward to the Music Festival and Venture Week. These two events highlight the continuity and
dedication that many people have towards this wonderful village. It is a great privilege for me to be
involved in both of these events and see them grow.
In light of the Air India 171 accident, the Family Fun Day (June 14th) was particularly poignant. At least
for me. I was rather involved in the Gatwick response due to my role there as Lead Chaplain. The Fun
Day was a wonderful turnout of people coming together as a community for nothing more than fun
and recreation, to enjoy the fantastic weather, catch-up with friends and meet new people. People will
pull together when tragedy occurs rather easily. We should gather together just as easily for fun and
celebration just for the sake of it far more often than we do.
While supporting the established events is great and needed - there is something special about new
initiatives. I hope that this event will get established in Charlwood diary in the future. Huge thanks to
those who made this happen.
The Music Festival has events on Friday evening and all-day Saturday. On Sunday we will start the day
with a service in St Nicholas at 11 am, carry on with brunch and then a full afternoon of music.
Fear not - this is not your ‘normal’ Sunday church service…
Venture Week will see 100 children, 12 hearty leaders and dozens of parent helpers and village
volunteers. There are not many places that have events that span the generations quite the way Venture
Week does and has done for the past 39 summers.
We aim for the magazine to be free to everyone. Although we will gratefully receive donations!
